Position Overview:
Under the general supervision of the Budget Officer, the Budget Analyst is responsible for a variety of professional tasks, including ongoing budget support and comprehensive analysis related to financial goals. This role involves assisting various departments with the preparation of the annual budget, conducting financial analysis, generating reports, forecasting revenues and expenditures, and overseeing financial performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in the development of the City's annual budget, which includes creating and updating multi-year revenue and expenditure forecasts, gathering necessary documentation, benchmarking, and reviewing departmental budget submissions.
- Update financial data, prepare budget presentations, and engage in budget committee reviews and City Council sessions.
- Respond to budget-related inquiries, provide recommendations, and prepare monthly reports comparing budgeted versus actual financial performance.
- Collect quantitative data from various sources for comparative analysis and prepare responses to surveys.
- Undertake special projects as assigned by management and perform additional duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a focus on accounting, budgeting, financial management, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of two years of full-time experience in accounting and/or budgeting, with governmental budgeting experience considered advantageous.
