As a Tractor Mechanic with J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc., you will be responsible for performing intermediate level maintenance, service, and repair of tractors and other equipment. You will work under routine supervision and be expected to troubleshoot issues and complete all fleet maintenance processes to ensure that units meet J.B. Hunt specifications at all times.
Key Responsibilities:- Technical Expertise: Demonstrate proficient technical knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and more difficult repairs as it pertains to tractor maintenance, including but not limited to the fuel system, battery, engine, drive train, onboard computer, transmission, air brake systems, and FHWA Inspections.
- Training and Development: May assist with the onboarding and mentoring of new Tractor Technician trainees and participate in Original Equipment Manufacture training for OE repairs.
- Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot tractor issues, work independently, and seek assistance as needed.
- Shop Safety: Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures.
- Communication: Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers at all times.
- Repair and Maintenance: Accurately perform intermediate level repairs to company and manufacturer's specifications, complete work orders, and demonstrate understanding of company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines.
Shifts may vary based upon location and business needs. Technicians can gain new skills and grow their opportunities through J.B. Hunt's Technician Career Advancement (TCA) program.
Qualifications:- Minimum Qualification: 18 years of age with 1-2 years of experience in Semi-Tractor maintenance and repair and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience; willingness to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed.
- A/C Certification: A/C Certification is required.
- DOT Certification: DOT certified in FHWA Inspections & Air Brakes.
- Basic Tools: Basic tools are required to successfully perform this role. These tools must be supplied by the employee in most locations. Employees without their own tools may obtain them through toolbox purchase program.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 lbs).
- Multitasking: Ability to multitask.
- Computer Skills: Proficient computer skills and/or comfortable working with a computer.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Proficient deductive reasoning skills, problem-solving skills, and time management skills.
- Self-Motivation: Self-motivation.
