Occupational Therapist Assistant

Options for Community Living, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Occupational Therapist Assistant to join our team. As an Occupational Therapist Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with severe and persistent mental illness or developmental disabilities to achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct evaluations and provide training in activities of daily living, vocational-educational, and community living skills with residents and make recommendations for individualized programs of instruction.
  • Select, plan, and deliver programs of occupational therapy to individual residents and groups of residents.
  • Assist and provide training in personal hygiene and grooming, self-care, travel, general household management, cooking and nutrition, laundry, decision making, and appropriate social skills to the individuals we support.
  • Consult with the treatment team regarding proposed treatment plans, progress in treatment, and recommendations for changes in treatment for individual residents and groups of residents.
  • Document services delivered and provide verbal and written reports as specified by program policy.
  • May deliver services in home or community settings and may escort residents on trips into the community.
  • Attend staff meetings as specified by a supervisor and/or program manager.
  • Meet the resident's goals and needs and provide quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
  • Help resident develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities by implementing programs involving manual arts and crafts, practice in functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, activities of daily living, and sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities.
  • Prepare resident for return to employment by consulting with employers; determining potential employee difficulties; retraining employees; helping employers understand necessary physical and job result accommodations.
  • Evaluate results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating resident's progress; recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Evaluate and adapt the environment at home, work, school, and other environments to promote an individual's optimal functioning.
  • Provide educational programs, experiential learning, and treatment groups or classes to address assertiveness, self-awareness, interpersonal and social skills, stress management, and role development.
  • Facilitate the development of skills needed for independent living such as using community resources, managing one's home, managing time, managing medication, and being safe at home and in the community.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in occupational therapy from a program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association required.
  • Minimum of one-year of experience serving individuals with severe and persistent mental illness or with developmental disabilities required.
  • Must be at least a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
  • Valid driver's license, safe driving record, access to a vehicle, and valid auto insurance required.

Salary and Schedule:

Salary Range: $58,500/yr. ($30/hour) - $68,250/yr. ($35/hour). Salary offers will be commensurate with experience and other qualifications. Schedule: Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm (37.5 hours/week). Location: In-person based out of our Ronkonkoma office, with field visits required. Pay Type: Non-exempt.
