Job Overview

The City of Katy is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Maintenance Worker within our Streets Department.

Position Summary:

This role involves performing a variety of maintenance, landscaping, and repair tasks for designated buildings and park areas. The incumbent will also manage the inventory of cleaning supplies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine checks and repairs on lighting, irrigation systems, and equipment; replace light bulbs and fixtures as necessary.
  • Landscaping Duties: Trim trees and shrubs, clean gutters, mow and edge lawns, apply fertilizers and mulch, manage weed control, and collect litter.
  • Minor Repairs: Execute basic plumbing repairs, power wash designated areas, sanitize restrooms, and perform painting tasks as required.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain stock levels of paper products and janitorial supplies; place orders as needed.
  • Event Support: Assist in setting up events, which may include moving furniture, erecting tents, and hanging decorations.
  • Emergency Response: This position is classified as Critical Personnel during emergencies, requiring the employee to perform duties that support public safety and the continuity of City operations.
  • Other Duties: Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; one year of general maintenance experience; or a combination of education and experience that meets these requirements.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Familiarity with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of landscape irrigation systems, including repair and installation.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, and air conditioning maintenance.
  • Awareness of safety protocols and practices.
Skills Required:
  • Ability to operate basic landscaping equipment.
  • Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Competence in following instructions accurately.
Licensing Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid State Driver's License is mandatory.
Physical Requirements:

This position demands physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting. The employee may need to exert force exceeding 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly. Exposure to various environmental conditions, including mechanical parts, electrical currents, and extreme temperatures, is expected.
