Lake Region Hospital's Nutrition Services Department is on the lookout for a dedicated and skilled Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) to deliver exceptional patient care in a full-time capacity.

This role primarily focuses on outpatient services, offering medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and diabetes education. The RDN will also provide essential support to the inpatient dietitian as needed. Opportunities may arise to extend dietitian services to outreach locations. Non-clinical responsibilities will vary and will support the overall functions of the Nutrition Services Department.

The ideal candidate will possess a passion for patient interaction and demonstrate self-direction and compassion, committed to enhancing patient health through practical care and education aligned with established standards.

The RDN will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, as well as fellow Nutrition Services colleagues and dietitians. The role involves regular interaction with patients, their families, healthcare professionals, and the community. The RDN will report directly to the Dietitian Supervisor/Diabetes Education Program Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities Include:

- Establishing a supportive relationship with patients
- Providing diabetes education and dietitian services that adhere to national standards of the Diabetes Self-Management & Education (DSME) program
- Collaborating to promote the DSME program among healthcare providers and potential patients
- Assisting with patient scheduling and outreach
- Evaluating patients' nutritional needs
- Creating tailored nutrition plans that foster health and recovery
- Initiating and interpreting continuous glucose monitors, aiding patients with diabetes-related technology
- Educating and counseling patients and caregivers using motivational interviewing techniques
- Supporting patients in securing insurance coverage for diabetes medications and supplies
- Staying informed about patient assistance programs
- Participating in Quality Improvement initiatives
- Engaging in relevant committees and meetings
- Maintaining comprehensive records
- Providing backup coverage for inpatient dietitian duties: Participating in patient-care rounds
- Completing nutrition assessments promptly
- Educating and counseling patients and caregivers on therapeutic diets and food/drug interactions
- Conducting nutrition-focused physical exams
- Documenting and communicating malnutrition findings with physicians
- Prescribing supplements to meet patients' nutritional needs
- Determining enteral and parenteral nutrition support requirements
- Coordinating with kitchen staff regarding patients' meal orders and preferences
- Completing documentation in the electronic health record efficiently
- Upholding HIPAA standards
- Adhering to scheduled work hours
- Following policies and procedures to ensure safe food provision and optimal nutrition care
- Prioritizing patient safety
- Demonstrating the values of Lake Region Hospital in daily interactions

Non-clinical responsibilities encompass:
