Job Summary
As an Optician at BJ's Wholesale Club, you will be responsible for dispensing spectacles and other optical products to both adults and children, working with prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. You will advise and assist patients with various types of lenses and spectacle frames, including style, weight, and color.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify order data entry and compare Rx to original Rx provided from the doctor, ensuring all information entered in the system is accurate.
- Deliver sales by providing excellent Member service in person and over the phone, explaining procedures included under the exam fee and maintaining a friendly demeanor with customers.
- Take measurements, assure correct frame selection for Rx power, read prescriptions on the lensometer, and notify patients of product readiness.
- Strive to deliver sales and metric goals by educating patients on the benefits of available products and recommending those that will improve their visual needs.
- Engage with members in front of Optical during downtime.
- Adhere to all privacy and confidential/proprietary company policies and procedures, providing support to Members in making eyeglass adjustments and repairs.
Requirements
- Must be licensed to work as an optician within the State and keep license up to date and active.
- Knowledge of optical products and business practices preferred.
- High school diploma, college degree, and/or big box wholesale, retail, and/or optical experience is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail required.
Work Environment
The majority of the time is spent moving about frequently on hard surfaces, with occasional need to position oneself to examine or scan merchandise. The role requires lifting objects up to 20 pounds and occasional exposure to temperature extremes and loud noises.
