Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Northwell Health. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for performing ultrasound exams to aid in patient diagnosis. You will utilize independent judgment in the application of non-ionizing, high frequency ultrasonic waves for diagnosis of disease. You will collaborate with clinicians to ensure appropriateness of studies and perform related administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for ultrasound exams; position patients on examination tables according to departmental standard operating procedures; explain procedures in layman's terms to relieve patient anxiety.
  • Obtain pertinent imaging and diagnostic reports required for correlation with ultrasound exams being performed; consult with referring physicians regarding patient history and to determine appropriate ultrasound exams required.
  • Set up equipment to administer particular exams in a timely fashion; use settings on machines to assure accurate results, using technical judgment.
  • Recognize significance of structures visualized in the oscilloscope and differentiate artifacts from normal or pathologic processes; determine need for more extensive evaluations beyond preliminary instructions.
  • Observe patients during entire examinations.
  • Recognize and report any changes in patient's condition and/or motor abnormality complaints by patients, including fainting, discoloration, etc., in accordance with procedures.
  • Document image details and labels studies; maintain records and logs exams performed.
  • Perform minor repairs and frequent calibration checks and adjusts ultrasound equipment, when necessary, and troubleshoots mechanical problems of the equipment by performing minor repairs as necessary.
Requirements
  • Vocational or technical school diploma required.
  • Current Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certification required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • 1-3 years of technical experience required.
