STRUCTURES TECHNICIAN (STARSHIP)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Modify, repair, assemble, and install components and subcomponents for rockets and spacecraft.
  • Utilize tooling holes, pilot holes, or manual methods as necessary, following drawings or tooling instructions.
  • Align components and secure them using clecos or clamps.
  • Install fasteners in the correct sequence as per drawings, employing appropriate tools such as rivet guns, drill motors, and power screwdrivers.
  • Shim and/or trim components as needed.
  • Select drill bits, reamers, and countersinking tools for pilot and full-size holes.
  • Locate and drill pilot holes using the drill motor and correct drill bit sizes.
  • Drill, ream, and countersink full-size holes in parts and assemblies, ensuring proper sequence and dimensions.
  • Set countersinking tools to the required depth.
  • Disassemble components and deburr holes using appropriate tools to prepare for fastener installation.
  • Clean surfaces with solvents prior to sealing or assembly.
  • Apply sealants, primers, adhesives, and special finishes.
  • Load and unload ovens for bonding detail parts to assemblies.
  • Determine and procure the correct type and size of fasteners.
  • Cold work holes to prepare for close tolerance fastener installation.
  • Install bushings into housings using an arbor press or hydraulic puller.
  • Utilize liquid nitrogen to assist in the installation of bushings.
  • Verify the completion of each operation and the overall job against the drawings.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in hardware assembly, testing, maintenance, material handling, or installation, or a certificate from an accredited trade skills program in A&P, manufacturing, or electronics.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in drilling, reaming, honing, and countersinking straight and close tolerance holes.
  • Background gained through military service or within an aviation manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with various hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Aptitude for visualizing three-dimensional shapes from two-dimensional views and understanding technical symbols and notes.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations accurately.
  • Experience in creating basic layouts on parts or assemblies to establish reference points and check dimensions.
  • Capability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work all shifts, including overtime and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (minimum of 8 hours).
  • Physical requirements include repetitive assembly operations, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, and carrying.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Structures Technician/Level 1: $27.00/hour
Structures Technician/Level 2: $32.50/hour
Structures Technician/Level 3: $38.00/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is part of your total rewards package at SpaceX, which may include long-term incentives, discretionary bonuses, and comprehensive benefits such as medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, and paid parental leave, among others.
