Amentum is seeking a skilled Motor Vehicle Mechanic to join our team. As a Motor Vehicle Mechanic, you will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and diagnosis of a wide range of vehicles, including light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, buses, and other specialized equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical problems with vehicles and equipment
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements
- Inspect and test equipment for mechanical defects and replace worn parts
- Utilize on-board computer diagnostic systems and other test equipment to diagnose and repair problems
- Interact with customers to keep them informed of the status of their vehicles and repairs needed
- Perform State vehicle safety and emission inspections on owned vehicles
- Identify necessary parts, equipment, and supplies needed to complete repairs or preventative checks
- Estimate cost and labor time for corrective repairs
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3 years minimum experience in the problem diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of light, medium, heavy, and/or specialized automotive equipment, other heavy equipment, and FAV vehicles
- Valid and current state driver's license
- Knowledge of gasoline and diesel vehicle preventive maintenance programs
- Excellent record of safety operations and working knowledge of safety standards for motor vehicle mechanical and electrical systems
- Considerable knowledge of the operating systems used in motor vehicles and equipment
- Ability to diagnose mechanical and related malfunctions
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals, references, and specifications
- Ability to write routine correspondence, maintenance logs, and order forms
The work environment is a shop setting that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and smell. The employee frequently lifts items weighing 40-45 pounds and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds.
