**Job Summary**



Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc is seeking a highly skilled Lead Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance crew, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our heavy equipment fleet. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy equipment repair and maintenance, with a proven track record of troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical issues.



**Key Responsibilities**




  • Lead a team of skilled mechanics in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, ensuring timely completion of tasks and optimal equipment availability.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of equipment to identify potential issues and develop proactive maintenance plans to prevent downtime.
  • Develop and implement procedures for the safe and efficient repair of heavy equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective communication and coordination of maintenance activities.


**Requirements**




  • 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment repair and maintenance, with a focus on troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical issues.
  • Proven track record of leadership and team management, with experience in training and mentoring junior mechanics.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures, with experience in developing and implementing safety programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.


**Preferred Qualifications**




  • Associate's degree or equivalent in a related field, such as heavy equipment repair or maintenance.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other software applications used in heavy equipment maintenance.
