Assembler - Electrical Unit Specialist

Powell is a leading manufacturer of engineered-to-order switchgear and electrical equipment for the power generation industry. As an Assembler - Electrical Unit Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality of our products by following standard work instructions and identifying potential risks to product quality.
Key Responsibilities- Build and assemble mechanical components for Switchgear units.
- Assemble Switchgear units as per drawings and instructions.
- Repair identified discrepancies with Switchgear units.
- Promote a safety culture and attend all safety meetings.
- Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.
- Ensure that work areas remain clean and well organized.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Minimum education level of a High School Diploma is preferred.
- Minimum 0-3 years' of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read a tape measure (including conversions from fraction to decimal and conversely from decimal to fraction and metric to imperial).
- Knowledge of machines and tools including their design, use, repair and maintenance.
- Must have a basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.
- Basic computer knowledge is considered an asset.
- Prior ability or interest in building or repairing mechanical components is considered an asset.
- Safety training certificates are an asset for the position.
- Previous experience in Switchgear units is considered an asset.
- This is a safety-sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment at all times and respirators when required.
- Must be able to work from all types of ladders and scaffolding.
- Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
- Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.
- Continuous standing, walking 50–300-foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.
