We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Inspector III to join our team at Jefferson Parish, LA. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for conducting field inspections to ensure compliance with current standards, codes, and ordinances regarding new construction, installations, and alterations for heating and cooling systems on residential and commercial properties.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with current standards, codes, and ordinances.
- Inspect mechanical and natural gas systems, equipment, installations, and components for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and ordinances.
- Issue violation notices of code violations requiring corrective action and conduct follow-up inspections.
- Testify at legal proceedings as needed regarding inspections/violations.
- Write inspection reports, record inspection fees and notices, log daily activities, and respond to questions from the public, contractors, property owners, and others regarding mechanical and/or gas inspections and Building Permit related questions.
- Possession of current certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Certified Building Official or as a Residential Mechanical Inspector, Commercial Mechanical Inspector, and Mechanical Plans Examiner.
- Meets one of the following four options:
- I. Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status in the classification of Mechanical Inspector II.
- II. Possession of a current Journeyman/Master Natural Gas Fitter license issued by the State Plumbing Board of Louisiana; plus, possession of a current Mechanical Work (Statewide) license issued by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) or a current Mechanical Contractor's license issued by Jefferson Parish.
- III. A minimum of five (5) years of verifiable, paid experience performing field inspections to ensure compliance with current standards, codes, and ordinances regarding new construction, installations, and alterations for heating and cooling systems on residential and commercial properties.
- IV. A minimum of seven (7) years of verifiable, paid, journeyman-level experience performing gas pipefitting installations under the supervision of a Louisiana Master Natural Gas Fitter and HVAC installations under the supervision of a Louisiana Statewide Licensed Mechanical Contractor.
- Vacation (Annual Leave) - Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked.
- Sick Leave - Employees accumulate one half day of paid sick leave for every two weeks worked.
- Holidays - Nine paid official holidays are observed, plus any holidays declared by Parish Officials.
