About the Role

UF Health is seeking a skilled Mental Health Tech to join our team on an Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit. As a Mental Health Tech, you will play a vital role in providing care, support, and supervision to patients, working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor patients and provide direct care, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Conduct routine checks, monitor the environment, and recognize and report any changes in patients' mood, affect, or condition to the nurse.
  • Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers, obtaining and documenting vital signs and weight accurately, and reporting abnormal results to the Nurse.
  • Support patients with feeding, personal care, and activities of daily living, promoting good personal hygiene and room care.
  • Utilize established aggression control techniques to intervene with patients in crisis in a safe manner.
  • Facilitate and process with patients on the unit after a crisis, demonstrating knowledge of and maintaining the legal rights of patients.
  • Supervise family visitation, respond to family concerns, and orient new patients to the unit and program rules and schedules.
  • Search patient belongings, document accurate inventory, and remove contraband, demonstrating knowledge of program protocols and behavior management.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • BLS certification provided by American Heart Association (AHA) required within 30 days of employment.
  • Completion of WELLE training (Non-Abusive Psychological & Physical Intervention) within 90 days of employment, with annual re-certification required thereafter.
  • Level 2 DCF Background Screening required upon hire.
