Position Overview:
Under the general supervision of the Budget Officer, the Budget Analyst is responsible for a diverse range of professional tasks including ongoing budget support and financial research and analysis. This role involves collaborating with various departments during the annual budget development process, conducting financial assessments, generating reports, forecasting revenues and expenditures, and tracking financial performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the formulation of the City's annual budget by developing and updating multi-year revenue and expenditure forecasts.
- Collect and analyze supporting documentation, benchmark data, and review departmental budget submissions.
- Update financial data in the financial suite, prepare budget presentations, and participate in budget committee reviews and City Council sessions.
- Address budget inquiries, provide recommendations, and prepare monthly financial performance reports comparing budgeted to actual figures.
- Gather quantitative data from various sources, conduct comparative analyses, and prepare responses to surveys.
- Undertake special projects as directed by management and perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a focus on accounting, budgeting, financial management, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of two years of full-time experience in accounting and/or budgeting; experience in governmental budgeting is advantageous.
