Battery Technician

As a Battery Technician at 1-800-Flowers Family of Brands, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of lead acid industrial batteries for all forklifts, order pickers, reach trucks, and pallet movers. This includes changing batteries, filling them with water, cleaning acid from the exterior of the batteries, and performing a complete battery cleaning each month.

• Perform periodic condition-based maintenance inspections.
• Carry out or coordinate preventative maintenance to equipment.
• Help other mechanics with tasks and learning new equipment and job tasks.
• Change batteries in all plant forklifts.
• Change batteries in all plant reach trucks.
• Inspect and clean forklift, order picker, and reach truck lead acid batteries.
• Add water to all batteries as needed.
• Clean batteries on an ongoing basis.
• Maintain battery washer, including proper pH levels in units.
• Keep battery racks clean of acid buildup.
• Keep area around battery chargers clean.
• Inspect eye wash station weekly.
• Keep steam pad area clean.
• Test batteries for proper voltage and specific gravity.
• Inspect and maintain battery changer daily.
• Replace battery cables and ends as necessary.
• Rebuild (replace battery cells) as necessary.

• High school education or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 6 months of experience necessary in order to make dependable and safe repairs to keep machinery operational.
• Mechanical aptitude along with experience with all hand tools required.
• Forklift license and valid Oregon driver's license.
• Able to manage multiple tasks while making professional decisions to reduce downtime while keeping safety as the highest priority.
• Able to lift to 50 pounds consistently and 50+ pounds on occasion.
• Able to stand, walk for extended periods (8 hours +), and stoop, kneel, crawl, and climb.
• Able to work in heights of 30+ feet and in cold storage (0 to 40 degrees) for extended periods of time (8 hours).
• This is a safety-sensitive position, subject to initial follow-up drug testing.
