Emergency Department Support Specialist

Job Summary:
The Emergency Department Technician requires skills and knowledge in multiple areas, including ED Tech, Patient Registrar, Unit Clerk, and Monitor Tech.
Assisting the nursing staff, the Emergency Department Tech performs RN-delegated tasks under supervision, providing patient care according to training, competence, and skill.
Familiar with hospital policies and procedures, consistently assists the patient care team in maintaining a clean, organized, adequately stocked, and safe environment.
Main Responsibilities:
- Meet OneCHRISTUS Competencies expectations: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders
- Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients
- Recognize changes in patient status, report findings to the RN, and perform tasks commensurate with training
- Escort stable patients to other departments as required
- Clean, procure, and return equipment and supplies
- Maintain competency for special procedures like venipuncture, splinting, staple and suture removal, nonsterile dressing changes, peak expiration flow rate, pulse oximetry, and crutch training
- Set up for Emergency Department procedures, assist the RN as directed, and operate patient monitoring equipment
- Perform phlebotomy, collect laboratory specimens, and insert saline lock under the direction of the RN
- Demonstrate competence in patient care responsibilities, adapting methods to meet unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and developmental needs
- Perform clerical and non-nursing duties on nursing units, such as serving as a receptionist, transcribing orders, requesting items, and maintaining patient, unit, and hospital records
- As a Patient Registrar, greet patients in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner, demonstrating customer service principles and ensuring patient comfort
- Document demographic, insurance, and financial information, compile scheduled reports from the computer system, and adhere to CHRISTUS Health's CORE values
Requirements:
A High School Diploma or GED is preferred. 1-2 years of patient care experience in an acute care hospital or military medic setting, or an Active EMT license in lieu of experience is required. Current BLS certification is also necessary.

7AM - 7PM, Per Diem As Needed
