Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:45 PM, 11-month duration
Role Summary: The School Counselor at Codman Academy Charter Public School plays a vital role in fostering the social and emotional development of students. This position emphasizes collaborative efforts and inclusive support, encouraging students to apply learned skills in various contexts. The counselor works in partnership with the Director of Special Education, Special Education Liaisons, and the Director of Student Support, along with external partners and families, to maintain a nurturing and consistent community environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- School-Based Mental Health Support:
- Provide individual and small group counseling as necessary.
- Serve as the Mental Health Leader on IEP/504 Teams, ensuring that clinical insights are integrated into student support.
- Collaborate with IEP Teams to create services tailored to the needs of students in inclusive settings.
- Consult with families and service providers, maintaining comprehensive counseling records.
- Facilitate referrals for external mental health services with parental consent.
- Design and oversee a play therapy internship program aimed at K1-6 mental health needs.
- Facilitate group sessions for skill development and relationship building among students.
- Draft and monitor social-emotional goals for IEP students across K1-12 and participate in IEP meetings.
- Proactive/Intervention Support:
- Lead Student Support Teams for K1-12, ensuring effective intervention strategies are in place.
- Work with the Director of Student Support on filing necessary reports to support students.
- Assist in developing RTI Plans and monitoring interventions to uphold best practices.
- Supervise Clinical Interns and coordinate their training and development.
- Oversee SEL initiatives and ensure data collection and implementation are effectively managed.
- Crisis Intervention:
- Assist students experiencing crises and implement appropriate interventions.
- Develop processes for student intervention and de-escalation to ensure a safe environment.
- Collaborate with families to create re-entry and support plans that promote student growth.
- Trauma-Informed Instruction & Coaching:
- Support classroom environments in developing trauma-informed practices through modeling and coaching.
- Organize resources and professional development for staff on trauma-informed strategies.
- Research and Partnerships:
- Stay informed on current research related to trauma-informed care and educational models.
- Collaborate with health centers and educational partners to enhance support services.
Additional Duties: Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
