Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at the Virginia Department of Corrections. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide nursing care to adult inmates in a correctional setting, utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 24-hour nursing care to inmates, including medication administration, patient education, and basic life support
  • Document all pertinent information into the health record, maintaining confidentiality and interfacing with other departments as needed
  • Delegate tasks and workload, working hours, days, and locations as assigned, and provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs
  • Provide evidence-based nursing care and promote continued competence through education and certification, with a focus on correctional nursing
Requirements
  • Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Virginia RN license
  • Hold current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers, through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience in a correctional setting is preferred
