Position Overview:
The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant plays a vital role within the Surgical Services Department, collaborating closely with the cardiothoracic team. Responsibilities include conducting patient rounds in critical care settings, telemetry, and general care units. The PA will be tasked with evaluating, diagnosing, and delivering pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care in alignment with surgical protocols. This encompasses performing physical examinations, diagnosing health conditions, formulating treatment strategies, providing health counseling, and prescribing medications as authorized by the supervising physician. Note that the PA will not be responsible for admitting patients to the hospital but may provide care in intensive care environments in accordance with established policies. Additionally, the PA will serve as the first assistant during cardiac surgeries and may act as a second assistant for patients on extracorporeal bypass.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent: Preferred
- Two years of relevant clinical experience: Preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
- Physician Assistant (PA) licensure in the state of practice: Required
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS OR HS-ACLS OR RQIACLS) certification: Required
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts post-operative consultations and monitors medication and laboratory results.
- Assists in the evaluation of patient transfers and inpatient assessments, participating in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries as needed.
- Engages in daily rounds in the ICU for cardiac patients, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.
- Coordinates post-operative clinic appointments and cardiac rehabilitation with the cardiovascular leader.
- Participates in monthly cardiology committee meetings and contributes to quality improvement initiatives based on evidence-based practices.
- Maintains daily communication and collaboration with the cardiovascular program leader and team.
- Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.
Compensation:
The estimated base salary for this role ranges from $153,251 to $229,877, with additional compensation opportunities based on experience, differentials, shift incentives, and bonuses.
