REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science is required. A degree in a related science field combined with relevant laboratory experience may also be considered. Educational transcripts must be provided upon application.
Experience:
Previous experience in a medical laboratory setting is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
Preferred certifications include Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) from ASCP or NCLS.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective communication with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare personnel when reporting and explaining test results.
Analytical skills are crucial for interpreting complex test results and determining appropriate actions for abnormal findings.
Attention to detail and organizational skills are vital for managing a high volume of samples while prioritizing tasks to ensure timely reporting of results.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Adhere to established procedures and policies for performing all tests relevant to your assigned section. Accurately record and enter laboratory results into the system, notifying supervisors of any unusual or abnormal findings prior to reporting.
Timely reporting of stat test results and highly abnormal findings is critical, following established protocols.
Compare current test results with previous patient data when necessary, alerting supervisors or pathologists to any significant fluctuations.
Conduct quality control and maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and operation.
Communicate with nursing staff or client offices regarding test results and clarifications on requests.
Actively participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and quality assurance programs, ensuring quality patient care by considering age-specific and cultural needs through competent clinical practice.
Assist in training new staff members and assume Tech-in-Charge responsibilities as assigned. Maintain positive relationships and approach conflicts constructively, contributing to problem-solving efforts.
Ensure confidentiality of patient information and adhere to the Mission, Vision, and Values of SJMHS. Take responsibility for performing job duties safely and report any hazards or unsafe practices immediately.
