Position Overview
Role Summary: The primary objective of this role is to empower and equip every student with the self-assurance, bravery, and skills necessary to fulfill their aspirations, contribute positively to society, and engage in lifelong learning. This position involves overseeing the planning, development, assessment, and enhancement of Student Services initiatives; executing a continuous improvement framework; ensuring compliance with relevant regulations; supervising personnel; judiciously utilizing resources and technology; and supporting the strategic objectives of the District and department.

Key Responsibilities: The essential duties of this role encompass, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Enhancing staff capabilities to leverage technical expertise for optimal impact; designing and facilitating professional development opportunities for department personnel; providing guidance and oversight for support staff as needed.
  • Establishing equitable hiring practices; exercising professional discretion in employment recommendations, and managing recruitment for direct reports.
  • Overseeing direct reports, including providing constructive feedback and timely performance assessments, while enhancing efficiency and compliance in recordkeeping and workflows.
  • Leading team efforts; appropriately delegating responsibilities and establishing procedures to streamline departmental operations; ensuring effective decision-making to meet project timelines.

  • Exhibiting knowledge of resources aligned with educational and programmatic outcomes; utilizing professional judgment in the selection of high-quality instructional materials to ensure access to rigorous content and support student engagement and mastery.
  • Collaborating with department leaders to formulate annual budgets; managing resources equitably and efficiently; analyzing operational needs to ensure budgetary compliance and making informed financial recommendations.
  • Understanding and ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local policies, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Applying equitable decision-making processes.
  • Evaluating student achievement data to inform continuous improvement strategies.
  • Staying informed about research and trends in curriculum, instruction, digital learning, and assessment to align program improvements with best practices.
  • Identifying and addressing staff professional development needs, utilizing assessment tools to align with strategic goals; coordinating professional learning opportunities.
  • Leading collaborative projects that integrate various departments and external agencies; working with community stakeholders to enhance technology use for student learning.

Qualifications:
  • Licensed as a Director of Special Education in Minnesota.
  • Education: Commensurate with licensure requirements.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Licensure as a School Principal is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong organizational and management skills;
  • Effective communication skills, including writing and speaking;
  • Ability to collaborate with parents, community groups, and various agencies;
  • Capability to coordinate program implementation and evaluate effectiveness;
  • Time management and prioritization skills;
