Position Summary:

We are in search of a seasoned Certification & Compliance Engineer to spearhead the product certification and emissions compliance for the Hyliion Karno Generator. This role involves formulating the certification and compliance strategy for the Hyliion Karno Generator while collaborating closely with regulatory bodies. You will be tasked with interpreting regulatory requirements, influencing new rulemaking through partnerships with regulatory agencies, and ensuring that Hyliion products meet relevant safety and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the creation of Certification & Emissions Compliance regulatory criteria to guarantee that Hyliion products achieve full compliance.
  • Analyze and derive engineering design, installation, and testing specifications from relevant UL, NFPA, and emissions standards for product compliance.
  • Collaborate with the design engineering team to ensure that all new and existing components comply with applicable UL standards.
  • Lead discussions regarding UL standards and their applications for safety approvals with suppliers.
  • Establish test requirements and plans for hardware and software, ensuring timely execution of tests prior to submission to a designated NRTL for compliance and safety approval.
  • Coordinate and manage third-party NRTL laboratories for UL compliance testing.
  • Engage with regulators at CARB and EPA to develop a pathway for emissions compliance and manufacturer certification for the Karno generator.
  • Document and manage ongoing design modifications to the product in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Stay informed about changes in industry standards, codes, and regulations, and conduct internal audits to ensure product development aligns with regulatory and compliance standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of power generation systems standards and regulations, including UL2200, UL 1741, and NFPA 70, to ensure our products meet rigorous safety, performance, and regulatory criteria.
  • Proficiency in UL standards, including their decomposition and interpretation.
  • Expertise in EPA and CARB emissions standards and testing methodologies for power generation applications.
  • Familiarity with Li-Ion Battery systems and associated safety protocols.
  • Prior experience in comprehensive product UL certification initiatives.
  • Experience in requirements management and familiarity with requirements management software such as JAMA.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, power systems, or a related discipline.
  • Over 10 years of experience in relevant engineering positions.
  • Proven experience in leading compliance engineering efforts related to power generation systems.
  • Experience managing technical projects, including schedule management and establishing key project tasks and milestones.
