Role Overview:
- The EmPATH program offers non-hospital based services aimed at providing immediate support to individuals facing mental health crises.
- Services are available to adults experiencing behavioral health challenges, either through direct admission or transfer from emergency departments.
- Initial admissions are voluntary and focus on adults (18+) dealing with mental health issues or co-occurring disorders.
Team Responsibilities:
- The Peer Support Specialist plays a crucial role within a multi-disciplinary team, offering education, rehabilitation, and support.
- This position provides hope and encouragement to clients by sharing personal recovery experiences and serving as a role model during crises.
Work Environment:
- Work takes place in a specialized unit designed for recovery support.
- Operations run 24/7, requiring consistent coverage regardless of external conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
This job description is not exhaustive; additional duties may be assigned as necessary by supervisors.
1. Daily Responsibilities:
- Engage in crisis planning and support.
- Provide one-on-one counseling and recovery coaching as needed.
- Respond to all communications within two business days.
- Complete assigned daily tasks before the end of each shift.
- Follow a structured daily schedule to promote client progress.
2. Documentation Compliance:
- Ensure timely completion of group logs, progress notes, and other required documentation.
3. Team Collaboration:
- Maintain punctuality and a strong attendance record.
- Stay alert and engaged during all shifts.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure safe and effective support for clients.
- Foster a positive work environment through professional relationships.
- Address conflicts constructively and professionally.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and necessary endorsements.
Compensation:
- Starting salary is approximately $16.90 per hour, based on experience and education.
Schedule Requirements:
- Flexibility in scheduling is essential, including potential overnight shifts and holiday work.
- Regular attendance is critical to job performance.
Travel Requirements:
- A valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements is necessary.
- A reliable vehicle is required for transporting clients.
Equipment and Technology:
- Proficiency with computers is essential.
- Ability to learn and utilize electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Qualifications:
Education:
- A High School Diploma is required, along with personal experience in behavioral health services.
- A Bachelor's degree in a health-related field is preferred, or three years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge in cultural diversity, human development, and mental health treatment is essential.
Experience:
- Experience with individuals facing severe mental health challenges is preferred.
- Experience in crisis settings is advantageous.
- Ability to share personal recovery stories and assist clients in transition planning is necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- Must remain alert and awake during shifts.
- Potential exposure to biological hazards.
- Ability to lift and move clients as needed.
