Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Specialist

The MRI Specialist plays a crucial role in executing MRI procedures and collaborating with healthcare professionals to determine suitable applications and protocols.

Job Relationships
Reports to the Advanced Imaging Operations Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Must hold certification as an MRI specialist or agree to pursue formal education, gain clinical experience, and successfully complete the MRI certification examination.
  • Generate high-quality MRI images and anticipate the need for additional imaging when necessary.
  • Possess a solid understanding of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Be knowledgeable about the functionalities of the MRI equipment.
  • Recognize pathologies and supply the radiologist with supplementary images as required to ensure comprehensive information is available.
  • Operate dry laser printing equipment.
  • Prepare MRI scans for radiologist interpretation.
  • Gather previous or comparative examinations from external sources.
  • Be familiar with pressure injectors and dosage of contrast agents.
  • Understand quench policy procedures.
  • Be knowledgeable about contrast materials and potential reactions.
  • Collect complete patient medical histories.
  • Maintain a log of all patient interactions.
  • Be well-versed in all aspects of magnetic safety.
  • Assist in the main department when time permits.
  • Must be adaptable to varying work hours.
  • Utilize computers and telecommunication devices as necessary.
  • Adhere to incident reporting policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all OSHA regulations and training requirements as stipulated by policy.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and uphold the customer service philosophy.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited institution.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must be registered and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in magnetic resonance within one year of employment.
  • CPR certification in accordance with American Heart Association guidelines is required within 30 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in venipuncture is essential.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Ability to adapt to diverse personalities and situations.
  • Possess the capability to manage emotions and maintain composure under pressure, exercising tact and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity for operating equipment and handling tools.
  • Be capable of physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, lifting, and twisting.
  • Ability to work with arms elevated.
  • Willingness to wear lead aprons for extended periods.
  • Capable of standing and/or walking for prolonged durations.
  • Assist patients in moving to and from the MRI unit.

Working Environment

  • Exposure to fumes from cleaning agents or chemicals used in x-ray film processing may occur in limited areas.
  • Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissues, contagious diseases, and/or hazardous materials.
  • Occasional heavy lifting may be required.
