About the Job

  • This role will be based in Los Angeles, CA, and involve primary responsibility for supporting the professional development of lawyers across three southern California offices.
  • The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Professional Development, collaborating on local, regional, and firmwide programs to advance lawyer development, engagement, and satisfaction.
  • They will also supervise, develop, and mentor a Professional Development Coordinator, ensuring effective training and development initiatives are implemented throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities

The Ambitious Career Advancement Professional will:

  • Assist in the implementation of the firm's strategic direction for attorney professional development.
  • Develop and deliver training offerings that meet professional, business, and client-service goals.
  • Collaborate with directors and committees to enhance attorney orientation programs and lateral attorney integration initiatives.
  • Track and evaluate attorney training opportunities, producing related reports and resources.

CLE Compliance and Career Development

  • Oversee tracking of lawyers' California CLE compliance and communicate with California-admitted lawyers regarding their status.
  • Work with the Office of General Counsel to ensure 100% compliance for California-admitted lawyers firmwide.
  • Promote a work environment that helps lawyers reach their highest potential and counsel them on career-development matters as needed.

Employee Development and Management

  • Train, develop, and mentor the Professional Development Coordinator.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and maintain open communication channels with the team.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • J.D. degree from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience in learning and development, law, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Able to work effectively across offices and time zones, with regular visits to Sidley's California offices and occasional travel to other US offices.

Salary and Benefits

The company offers a highly competitive base salary, bonus, and benefit package, reflecting the senior level of this role.

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $150,000 - $180,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
