Dialysis Nurse

As a Dialysis Nurse at SSM Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care to individuals requiring complex assessments and interventions. This position involves collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to ensure quality outcomes for dialysis patients, evaluating the effectiveness of dialysis treatments, and identifying any issues that may impact desired patient outcomes.
Responsibilities and Requirements- Assess daily dialysis patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality outcomes for dialysis patients.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of dialysis treatments and identify any issues that may impact desired patient outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement activities, including collection of data for the dialysis unit's Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) plan and maintenance of regulatory compliance requirements.
- Respond to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
- Work with internal and external resources to maintain machine maintenance and partnership with home dialysis departments.
- Perform surveillance and testing of dialysis water treatment equipment and dialysis water to ensure that these machines are operating within the parameters set within the manufacturer guidelines.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of dialysis laboratory tests and dialysis medications.
- Demonstrate clinical competence and knowledge in cannulation of dialysis access and proper care and use of central lines.
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of infection control and prevention of transmission of blood-borne pathogens.
- Provide patient education/teaching applicable to the patient's medical condition.
- May provide input for hiring, training, directing, developing, and evaluating staff.
- Apply the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in healthcare to medical-surgical nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient's age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department's Scope of Service.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing.
- Minimum one year of registered nurse experience.
- Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
- Constant standing and walking.
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
- Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Occasional driving.
- Rare crawling and running.
