POSITION SUMMARY:
Mid-Level Automation Technician


This role requires foundational technical skills alongside advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities to elucidate control logic functionality and address operational conditions affecting system performance.

Begin to develop integrator skills and utilize engineering design documents to commission control systems, validate control loops, ensure control logic functionality, configure end devices, and conduct alarm testing.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Accountable for the installation, programming, calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of automation equipment.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Tasked with maintaining and repairing a diverse range of automation and electrical equipment linked to upstream onshore oil and gas production operations.
Provide on-site automation assistance for upstream onshore oil and gas production activities.

Act as a technical resource for facility control systems and field instrumentation, including level, pressure, flow, vibration, and other instruments.


Ensure that maintenance tasks are performed in accordance with applicable industry and corporate Process Control standards. Adhere to PLC programming practices, standards, and MOC procedures.

Identify areas of concern with instrumentation and control systems to uncover strategic improvement opportunities.

Utilize CMMS, such as SAP, to streamline maintenance operations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS,

AND COMPETENCIES:
- An associate degree in Instrumentation or Automation technology with a GPA of 2.5 or higher (or equivalent foreign qualification), or relevant technical work experience with a strong safety record.

3+ years of experience as an Automation Technician.

3+ years of experience in the Oil Field.

Advanced understanding of well RTU designs, programming, and troubleshooting.

Advanced knowledge of analog and discrete instrumentation, as well as various serial and Ethernet communication protocols.

Advanced familiarity with technical standards and guidelines (API, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ISA, etc.).

Intermediate knowledge of maintaining PLC programs in function block, ladder logic, and structured text.

Intermediate knowledge of managing local HMI operator interfaces.

Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and participate in an on-call rotation.

Schedules may vary based on location.

Willingness to travel to unassigned job areas as needed.

Ability to work under air (fit test) and from aerial manlift platforms.

Commitment to safety while working around instrumentation and electrical systems.

Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Windows Operating Systems.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:


A bachelor's degree in Automation with a GPA of 3.0 or higher (or equivalent foreign qualification).
- 7+ years of experience in the Oil Field.
- 3+ years of upstream oil and gas automation experience.
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley & Rosemount systems.

- Ability to interpret Cause & Effects, wiring diagrams, control narratives, etc. - Intermediate skills in troubleshooting control networks for well sites, well pads, tank batteries, saltwater disposal, and compressor stations.

(ControlNet, Ethernet I/P, Network Switches, fiber optics, RF communications)- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with management, technical, and field personnel.- Foster positive relationships based on trust and seek collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve objectives.- Actively listen and welcome new ideas for discussion, then influence and act to drive positive performance and achieve results.
