Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) is seeking dedicated Nursing Students for our upcoming Nurse Trainee Program.

This program provides nursing students with the chance to gain practical experience across various departments that CMH offers, including Long-Term Care, Hospital, Home Care/Hospice, and Clinics.

Nurse Trainees are considered employees of CMH and will receive compensation for their clinical hours while they work towards completing their nursing education, in return for a one-year employment commitment following successful graduation.


Key Responsibilities:
Work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Assist with patient care tasks as outlined below:
- Perform specific nursing skills as instructed
- Successfully complete the skills assessment component of the nursing curriculum
- Once deemed competent through additional skill demonstrations by CMH employed RN/LPN, may perform tasks independently
- Assist in patient assessments by gathering patient information
- Support or perform daily living activities for patients
- Conduct linen changes as necessary
- Respond promptly to requests for assistance from patients and staff
- Aid in the labeling and transport of specimens
- Ensure patient comfort by performing rounds and anticipating needs
- Document patient records in a timely, accurate, and concise manner
- Notify licensed personnel immediately of any changes in patient status or condition
- Assist with admission and discharge procedures in an accurate and timely manner
- Help manage patients' personal belongings

As a Nurse Trainee, you will have the opportunity to develop various skills:
- IV insertion and removal

Port access:
insertion and removal

Urinary Catheter:
maintenance, insertion, and removal

Gastric Tubes:
maintenance, irrigation, administration of feeding, removal

Dressing changes:
assist RN/LPN, independently perform basic dressing changes (no medication administration), removal of sutures, staples, and surgical drains

Hygiene and skill care:
implement and participate in methods to prevent skin breakdown

Tracheostomy/Vent care:
maintenance, including suctioning, inner cannula change (trach only), and securement device change
- Blood glucose monitoring

Specimen collection:
nasal, NP and throat swabs, blood, urine, stool
- Second verifier for Blood Products

In a clinical setting:
rooming, medication reconciliation, EKG, ear lavage, wound care, and assisting with procedures as directed.

Qualifications:
Enrollment in a State Board Certified Nursing Program and in the final two semesters of the nursing program.

Requirements:
- Work a minimum of 12 hours per month (not including clinical time), which can be divided into 4, 6, or 12-hour shifts
- Maintain current BLS certification
- Complete employee quarterly Healthstream assignments
- Finish SAFE training within one year
