Position Overview:
The Certified Nursing Assistant I functions as an integral part of the healthcare team, operating under the direct and indirect oversight of a Registered Nurse. This role is essential in delivering fundamental patient care focused on comfort and safety, adhering to established training and certification standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold the confidentiality of all patient and organizational records.
- Stay informed about departmental communications and updates.
- Coordinate with the Charge RN/Supervising RN to ensure proper coverage when leaving the unit.
- Receive assignments from the charge nurse and provide regular updates on the status of tasks throughout the shift.
- Communicate patient care information effectively to maintain high standards of care.
- Engage with patients, families, and colleagues in a professional and respectful manner.
- Assist members or connect them with the appropriate personnel as needed.
- Adhere to safety practices in the use of all equipment.
- Operate and maintain equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and hospital policies.
- Report equipment malfunctions and initiate repair requests as per policy.
- Verify patient identity by checking identification bands before performing duties.
- Handle hazardous and infectious waste in compliance with safety regulations.
- Participate appropriately during emergency situations.
- Deliver services that prioritize patient comfort and safety.
- Assist patients and team members with safe lifting, transferring, and positioning.
- Implement safety devices as directed by the RN.
- Perform delegated tasks as outlined in the CNA I Scope of Duties.
- Accurately measure and document vital signs, reporting any abnormalities to the supervising RN.
- Collect and transport specimens as required.
- Document completion of assigned tasks on designated forms.
- Report any changes in patient condition to the supervising RN.
- Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients.
- Complete assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with the supervising RN to prioritize tasks based on patient needs.
- Adapt to changes in the work environment and related assignments.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience:

Education:
- Completion of a basic nursing assistant training program approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) is required.
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
- Nursing Assistant Certificate - Level 1 (Oregon)
- Basic Life Support Certification
Additional Requirements:
- Physical Requirements:
- Lifting and carrying: Able to lift and carry at least 40 pounds.
- Bending: Capable of bending multiple times per shift.
- Walking: Able to stand and walk for the entire shift, covering distances of three to five miles.
- Push/Pull: Able to push or pull weights between 100 to 300 pounds with assistance.
- Standing: Capable of standing for six to eight hours per shift.
- BLS with AED Certification is required.
- Note: Adherence to all prescribed safety precautions and procedures is mandatory to prevent accidents or exposure to illness.
