Job Overview

The Army National Guard is seeking highly skilled and motivated individuals to join our team as Indirect Fire Infantrymen. As a member of this elite group, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining the Infantry's most powerful weapon – the mortar. Your duties will include setting up, loading, and firing mortars, employing crew and weapons in offensive, defensive, and retrograde ground combat, and operating, cleaning, and storing automatic weapons.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, load, and fire three types of mortars
  • Employ crew and weapons in offensive, defensive, and retrograde ground combat
  • Operate, clean, and store automatic weapons
  • Employ, fire, and recover anti-personnel and anti-tank mines
  • Carry out scouting missions to spot enemy troops and gun locations

Requirements

  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
  • Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
  • Must meet citizenship requirements

Training and Development

As an Indirect Fire Infantryman, you will receive comprehensive training and development opportunities to help you succeed in your role. You will attend 10 weeks of Basic Training, followed by 14 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, where you will learn the skills and knowledge necessary to operate and maintain the mortar.
