About Our Job

The City and County of Denver is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Utility Worker II to join our Solid Waste Management team. As a key member of our crew, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to solid waste collection, including lifting and emptying heavy containers, operating hydraulic compaction units, and washing trucks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lift and empty heavy solid waste containers into disposal trucks
  • Operate hydraulic compaction units on city trash collection vehicles
  • Wash trucks as needed
  • Perform unskilled, light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects
  • Assist skilled trade workers with minor repairs to buildings and facilities
  • Operate light weight equipment powered by small engines
  • Perform pre-trip inspection on equipment and secure, clean, and care for all tools and equipment needed for job assignments
  • Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas
  • Perform exterior maintenance duties, including spading dirt, pruning shrubs, raking leaves, watering assigned areas, picking up litter, and clearing dumpster areas
Requirements
  • One year of experience performing unskilled labor work
  • Valid Driver's License at the time of application
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL B) with appropriate endorsements within six months of employment
