The Gulf Coast Trending and Engagement Journalist will delve into a diverse range of subjects that resonate with New Orleans locals who frequently travel or commute to the Gulf Coast, as well as tourists exploring coastal Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. This role focuses on uncovering experiences, dining options, social interactions, and must-see attractions.
This position operates at the crossroads of tourism, culinary arts, culture, transportation, and breaking news, ensuring that each day presents unique challenges and opportunities. The journalist will leverage engagement tools to foster audience growth around trending Gulf Coast narratives and create utility and evergreen guides that serve our readership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and report on stories pertinent to the Gulf Coast, spanning from New Orleans to the Florida panhandle, including popular destinations.
- Identify and cover topics of significant interest to both locals and visitors, such as new dining establishments, community developments, and transportation issues.
- Engage with online communities focused on tourism, culinary experiences, and regional development to cultivate sources and generate story ideas.
- Experiment with engaging storytelling techniques that are reader-driven and first-person oriented.
- Craft compelling headlines and social media content that effectively attract readers to your articles.
- Spotlight stories with the potential for viral appeal, ensuring they are accessible and engaging for digital audiences.
- Assist in reporting during major breaking news events.
- Utilize engagement tools, including digital analytics, to pinpoint topics of high interest for audiences in or visiting the Gulf Coast.
