UNC Health is seeking a skilled CT Technologist to join our team in Carrboro, North Carolina. As a CT Technologist II, you will play a critical role in conducting complex procedures and tests using Computed Tomography (CT) equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct complex procedures and tests using CT equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data, working collaboratively with various teams to obtain necessary imaging for advanced diagnoses.
- Assist radiologists in performing high-risk invasive diagnostic techniques, such as needle biopsies, aspirations, and CT-guided joint injections, while demonstrating competence in adjusting scan parameters to limit radiation dosage.
- Evaluate contra-indications, notify care teams, and coordinate appropriate care prior to patient arrival, when possible.
- Perform CTA perfusion, Code IA/Stroke/Bat, Red Trauma Series, Yellow Trauma Series, ROSC, and Portable CT procedures, as defined by procedure and/or physician, and train CT Tech I team members on these high-risk exams/procedures.
- Recognize diagnostic characteristics of normal and abnormal scans, anatomy, and questionable findings, alerting radiologists for escalation of and/or additional care.
- Manipulate parameters for CT Gated Watchman and Cardiac exams, including monitoring devices and equipment settings, and demonstrate competency in manipulating both equipment and computer parameters.
- Analyze scan data throughout the examination to ensure a comprehensive exam is completed and sufficient data is provided to the physician, along with notes regarding complications that may have impacted quality of scan/images.
- Triage care for general anesthesia (adult/pediatric) exams, provide education for care teams, and ensure optimal parameters, equipment settings, contrast administration, and post-processing of images.
- Obtain images per protocols, manipulate images according to protocols, perform multi-planar and 3D reconstruction of image data, and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of CT algorithms and window/level settings.
- Administer oral and rectal contrast to adult and pediatric patients according to protocols, establish intravenous lines, administer IV contrast following safe and proper injection procedures, and follow correct procedure to determine contrast eligibility, checking appropriate lab values before contrast injection per protocol.
- Completion of an accredited educational program in Radiological Science with an advanced registry in Computed Tomography.
- Registration with the American Registry of Radiological Sciences or registry eligibility, with a copy of diploma from accredited program required for registry eligible candidates.
- Advanced certification in CT and maintenance of registry status and continuing education requirements annually.
- Three (3) years of experience as a CT Technologist.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities requirements include a strong understanding of CT equipment, procedures, and protocols, as well as excellent communication and teamwork skills.
