Job Summary:
Altair Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer Controls to join our team. This is a contract position that requires a strong background in manufacturing engineering and controls.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement manufacturing delivery quality operating system requirements for various subsystems.
- Collaborate with product development teams to generate facility and tooling costs, improve quality, and reduce labor requirements.
- Use virtual tools to evaluate the feasibility of new model designs for high-volume assembly operations.
- Write, modify, and maintain process sheets and deliver updated cycle line layouts.
- Lead the identification, resolution, and closure of assembly and machining feasibility issues.
- Create and follow a master schedule for the design, build, and implementation of tools in various subsystems.
- Lead the assembly, body, machining, battery cell tooling installation, start-up, and commissioning at manufacturing sites.
- Lead the identification, resolution, and closure of all launch product and tooling issues.
- Develop 'Lessons Learned' from new model launches and implement prevent reoccurrence actions into future programs.
- Support department safety, quality, delivery, cost, people, morale, environment, and innovation (SQDCPMEI) initiatives.
- Interface with cross-functional activities, including product development, supplier technical assistance, material planning and logistics, and new model programs.
Basics:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to support launch programs on extended travel.
- Strong project management skills and result-oriented mindset.
- Strong computer skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, and 3D CAD review abilities.
- Understanding of PFMEA and failure mode avoidance principles.
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to operate in stressful situations within timing constraints.
- Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
- Automotive manufacturing engineering experience required.
- Experience with automotive assembly or machining tooling, processes, and facilities required.
- Ability to travel, including extended travel to assembly and component plants in the US, Canada, and/or Mexico.
Preferred:
- Working knowledge of statistics, including control charts, data collecting, and GD&T.
- Knowledge of software systems, including AVBOM, WERS, GSPAS/APT, Teamcenter, E2KS, AIM, and CPARS.
- Experience in one or more of the following automotive systems: interior, exterior, chassis, powertrain, electrical, water test, end-of-line, stator/rotor, machining, cell manufacturing, and battery assembly.
