Job Summary

The Surgical Instrument Specialist at Boston Children's Hospital plays a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of patient care by maintaining and sterilizing surgical instruments. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Instrument Preparation: Inspect, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments according to departmental policies and manufacturer's instructions.
  • Sterilization Procedures: Load and operate sterilizers, monitor temperature and other critical readings during run cycles, and maintain accurate records.
  • Inventory Management: Restock OR surgical core with sterilized instrumentation and maintain organized inventory systems.
  • Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service by responding promptly to requests and resolving issues efficiently.
Requirements
  • Education: High school degree or equivalent required; certification in Sterile/Central Processing preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in Sterile Processing; strong knowledge of instrumentation and power surgical instruments.
  • Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication and teamwork abilities, and flexibility to adapt to changing department needs.
