Job Summary

The Dean of Scholars is responsible for the supervision, coordination, and implementation of the District Uniform Discipline Code for Student Conduct under the direction of the principal. This role involves supervising and monitoring student activities, clubs, and organizations, and assisting the principal in establishing and maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment.

Essential Job Functions
  • Works with District and building staff and students while implementing student discipline under the District Uniform Discipline Code of Student Conduct.
  • Develops positive and appropriate relationships with students.
  • Works with instructional staff, counselors, security, coaches, and other staff in the area of student behavior and student services.
  • Communicates with parents, students, and staff.
  • Supervises students during, before, after school and at school-related extra-curricular activities.
  • Maintains an atmosphere that is conducive to the educational process.
  • Establishes routine processes and procedures that are conducive to the educational process.
  • Assists the Principal in the management of the school.
  • Ensures the District policies are followed and implemented.
  • Promotes community understanding of school policy and needs as well as working with various community agencies.
  • Assists in the supervision of assigned non-instructional support staff.
  • Assists the Principal in the preparation and administration of the school budget.
  • Participates in building and district committees/meetings directed by the principal and/or superintendent or designee.
  • Actively cultivates positive relationships with students and with parents.
  • Works as part of the building team to ensure academic achievement of all students.
  • Works in other administrative areas as directed by the principal.
  • Meets regularly with district leadership to implement the directives of the district.
  • Interacts with co-workers, administration, students, and parents in cooperative, supportive, and positive ways.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree and two years of experience working with students as a mentor or equivalent experience working with youth. A Master's degree is preferred. The candidate should demonstrate knowledge of models for changing student behavior, leadership skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust/focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate.
