Aveanna Healthcare is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Caregiver for Special Needs to join our team. As a valued member of our care team, you will play a vital role in providing non-medical personal care, assistance, and companionship to clients who require supervision due to developmental disabilities, intellectual deficiencies, or other health-related conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including ambulation, transfers, and gait assistance.
  • Provide hands-on and/or stand-by assistance to ensure safe transfers and ambulation, including the use of ambulation aids such as walkers, wheelchairs, and gait belts.
  • Assist with grooming and hygiene, including washing hands and face, and other general hygiene activities.
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks, following nutritional and meal planning guidelines to ensure proper nutritional intake.
  • Dress clients as needed, providing hands-on and/or stand-by assistance with changes of clothing.
  • Assist with toileting, including helping clients on and off the toilet or commode, and ensuring cleanliness as needed.
  • Engage clients in conversations, avoiding personal disclosures and discussions about the client's family.
  • Teach, train, and encourage clients to perform tasks and learn skills as directed by parents.
  • Entertain clients through activities such as reading, playing memory games, completing puzzles, and more.
  • Follow agency policies related to privacy and confidentiality, including HIPAA laws.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with the disabled population.
  • Physical and mental ability to perform essential functions of the position, including safely lifting, turning, and transferring weight up to 50 pounds.
  • Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proper hygiene and appropriate dress at all times.
  • CPR/First Aid certification as required by program.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable MVR.
  • Ability to read 12-point or larger type.
  • Ability to hear and speak in a manner understood by most people.
  • Ability to stoop and bend.
  • Ability to travel to prospective clients' residences.
  • Ability to safely lift, turn, and transfer clients weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to carry bundles weighing up to 10 pounds up stairs.
  • Ability to function in a wide variety of environments, including exposure to allergens and other conditions.

Preferred:

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
