Job Summary

The Department of State Hospitals is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the pharmacy operations and ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare unit dose cassettes and check ATC strips to ensure accurate medication dispensing
  • Fills medication drawers with prescribed doses and prepares medication labels
  • Assists pharmacists with preparation of prescriptions and verifies orders received against purchase orders, invoices, and requisitions
  • Maintains records of prepackaged drugs and reviews pharmacy stock for expired medications
  • Labels and stores pharmaceutical supplies and maintains patient medication profiles
  • Delivers and picks up medications to nursing units and operates packaging machinery and other office equipment
  • Cleans equipment, shelves, and work areas and performs other service and technical pharmacy work as needed
  • Reviews and interprets physicians' orders and accurately processes initial orders and faxed orders for medication
  • Coordinates Medicare Part D prescription drug benefits and assures medications ordered are in formulary
  • Assures credits for all returns and maintains accurate records

Requirements

  • Pass a drug screening prior to being hired
  • Clear a background investigation prior to being hired
  • Willingness to recheck one's own work and work within exacting and meticulous guidelines
  • Personal hygiene consistent with a medical setting and normal color vision adequate to successfully perform the job
