Job Summary:
The EHS Counsel will be responsible for providing legal guidance and support on a wide range of environmental, health, and safety issues. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in EHS legal matters and a strong track record of managing compliance, risk mitigation, and regulatory issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise on federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations.
- Ensure company policies and practices comply with EHS regulations and standards.
- Monitor changes in EHS legislation and recommend updates to company policies as needed.
- Identify and assess potential EHS risks and liabilities.
- Develop strategies to mitigate risks and manage compliance.
- Provide legal counsel on risk assessments, audits, and investigations.
- Oversee legal aspects of EHS incidents and investigations.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies, legal teams, and other stakeholders during incident response and resolution.
- Manage documentation and reporting requirements related to EHS incidents.
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees and management.
- Ensure that training materials are up-to-date with current regulations and best practices.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and review of EHS policies and procedures.
- Ensure policies are aligned with legal requirements and company objectives.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, legal authorities, and industry groups on EHS matters.
- Support communication with internal and external stakeholders regarding EHS issues.
- Manage and oversee EHS-related litigation and regulatory enforcement actions.
- Work with external legal counsel as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- 5+ years of experience in environmental, health, and safety law, with a strong background in regulatory compliance and risk management.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations and standards.
- Proven ability to handle complex legal issues and navigate regulatory environments.
- Experience in managing EHS compliance programs and incident investigations is highly desirable.
