Department Purpose
The Division of Business and Advanced Technology offers educational programs in various fields, including Agriculture, Business, Manufacturing, Automotive, and Technology.
The faculty member will deliver relevant and rigorous instruction within the Computer Information Systems Program, equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become effective professionals or to successfully transition to four-year institutions for further education.
Position Summary
This faculty role involves teaching advanced networking and cybersecurity courses using innovative methods to engage students in diverse topics such as access control systems, business continuity planning, cryptography, regulatory compliance, operations security, physical security, security architecture, security management practices, network security, penetration testing, incident response, software assurance, and risk management. Courses may be delivered in hybrid or fully online formats. Responsibilities also include maintaining CompTIA test vouchers and integrating Digital Forensics into the curriculum.
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority per Department of Education guidelines, requiring the incumbent to report any known crimes to the Department of Public Safety and attend annual training related to these responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver courses as assigned, adhering to faculty workload guidelines and attending all scheduled classes unless canceled or with permission from the Chairperson.
- Act as the primary contact for accreditation activities.
- Travel to attend relevant meetings and training sessions.
- Participate in Northwest Hub activities, including Capture the Flag competitions and mentoring high school students involved in the NCL.
- Oversee the maintenance of laboratory facilities, ensuring all equipment is operational and up-to-date.
- Document hardware and software inventory, maintaining various operating systems and security measures.
- Attend department, division, and college meetings as required, unless conflicts arise with scheduled classes.
- Provide substitute teaching for colleagues during short-term absences as directed by the Department Chair.
- Maintain a work schedule in accordance with state and faculty workload policies, including a minimum of 24 hours on campus weekly.
- Hold regular office hours for student consultations and advisement.
- Conduct student advisement and registration duties with professionalism.
- Implement and support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategies throughout the Division.
- Prepare course materials adequately for all assigned classes.
- Enforce safety procedures in the classroom and lab environments.
- Assist in developing and implementing program curricula and syllabi in collaboration with colleagues.
- Support the training of instructors and preparation of instructional materials.
- Engage in college-wide assessments of student learning and participate in program reviews as required.
- Contribute to marketing, recruitment, and retention initiatives.
- Serve on at least one college committee or task force annually after the provisional year and represent the college in the community as needed.
- Participate in graduation ceremonies.
Faculty members are also expected to assist with student orientations, advising, and registration. Absences should be minimal and justified; notification to the supervisor is required. Faculty must arrange for class coverage or obtain approval for cancellations per college policy.
Engagement in ongoing professional development focused on active learning and cultural competency is expected.
Faculty should exemplify professionalism in attire, actions, and communication, responding constructively to feedback and following the appropriate channels for conflict resolution.
Compliance with laws, policies, procedures, and regulations governing the college is mandatory.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Computer Information Systems, Networking, Cyber Security, or a related field.
- Eligibility for CTE credentialing in Colorado.
- A minimum of four years of full-time experience in networking, cybersecurity, information technology, or a related field within the last seven years.
- Comprehensive knowledge of computer hardware and software.
