Position Overview

Weill Cornell Medicine's Neurological Surgery department provides comprehensive care for patients with a wide array of neurological conditions, including but not limited to brain and spinal tumors, strokes, aneurysms, epilepsy, and movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease. We are seeking a dedicated Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) to join our Chiari Program.

In collaboration with a supervising physician, the FNP will oversee and deliver direct patient care within designated specialty areas, adhering to established clinical protocols. This role will also focus on educating patients about their health and treatment options.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Assess patient needs to prioritize nursing care and develop individualized care plans.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary healthcare services and arrange necessary diagnostic tests as per physician orders.
  • Manage patient inquiries and communicate diagnostic results effectively.
  • Administer medications and injections as prescribed, ensuring compliance with state regulations and clinic protocols.
  • Document relevant medical information in electronic health records accurately.
  • Engage with referring physicians to foster new patient referrals.
  • Oversee the precertification and preauthorization processes for prescribed medications.
  • Participate in safety initiatives and assist in the orientation of new staff members.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control standards and quality assurance measures.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment, ensuring accuracy in orders and deliveries.
  • Attend professional development workshops and seminars to stay updated on best practices.
  • Evaluate patient eligibility for clinical studies and review medical histories as necessary.
  • Utilize established protocols to manage patient care, including prescribing and adjusting medications.
  • For surgical cases, ensure all pre-operative requirements are met and review documentation for accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing.

Experience

A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as an FNP in a healthcare setting, ideally within a related specialty. New graduates with relevant nursing experience in neurosurgery may be considered.

Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is mandatory.

  • Infection Control Certification.
  • Current DEA registration for narcotics.
