Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Refrigeration Systems Operator to join our team at Westward Seafoods. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our refrigeration systems, ensuring the quality and integrity of our products.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Operation and Maintenance: Operate and maintain our 1575 horsepower R-22 refrigeration system, including plate freezers, blast freezer, RSW chillers, cold storage, galley coolers, and containerized cooler units.
  • Collaboration with Other Departments: Work closely with other departments to ensure a continuous flow of product through the plant.
  • Pre-Season and Post-Season Maintenance: Perform maintenance tasks pre-season and post-season to ensure smooth start-ups and optimal system performance.
  • Assistance with Related Projects: Assist with other related projects as directed by the Chief Engineer.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification: Possess EPA Section 608 Universal Certification or be willing to obtain it.
  • Experience with Large R-22 Systems: Have experience with large R-22 refrigeration systems, including screw compressors, two-stage systems, and low-temperature liquid recirculation systems.
  • Mechanical Aptitude and Troubleshooting Skills: Possess mechanical aptitude, resourcefulness, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Working Knowledge of Electrical and Piping Systems: Have a working knowledge of electrical and piping systems.
  • Effective Communication and Teamwork: Be able to communicate effectively and work closely with other departments to achieve overall plant objectives.
  • Ability to Work Efficiently with Minimal Supervision: Be able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Reliability and Adaptability: Be willing to work well under pressure, 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, and adapt to changing circumstances.
Physical Requirements
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, frequently lift to 50 pounds.
  • Specific Vision Abilities: Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
