Overview:


Thermo King is currently seeking a Refrigeration Systems Technician Trainee. This role involves assisting in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Thermo King refrigeration units, auxiliary power units (APUs), and heating systems.


Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct preventive maintenance (PM) on trailer equipment (A & B).

2. Replace or reinstall fuel filters, prime fuel systems, and initiate trailer equipment.

3. Service EGR valves on trailer equipment by replacing, reinstalling, or cleaning.

4. Adjust belt tension on trailer equipment as needed.

5. Manage battery replacements on trailer equipment.

6. Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on truck equipment (A & B).

7. Install new units on truck equipment.

8. Replace or reinstall alternators and water pumps on truck equipment.

9. Execute preventive maintenance (PM) on Tripac systems (A & B).

10. Install new Tripac APUs and perform related maintenance.

11. Conduct preventive maintenance (PM) on Espar systems.

12. Replace or reinstall fuel pumps and alternators on both trailer and truck equipment.

13. Manage starter replacements on trailer and truck equipment.

14. Install new units on trailer equipment as required.

15. Utilize the Asset Library portal for accessing manuals, software, customer lists, and labor guides.

Qualifications:

Competencies:
To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following competencies:

- Basic mechanical knowledge and skills are preferred.

- Familiarity with 4-cycle engines is advantageous.

- Understanding of Ohm's Law is beneficial.

- Knowledge of electricity and 12-volt direct current (DC) is preferred.


Ability to effectively use various hand and power tools, including welding and cutting equipment, refrigeration gauge assemblies, engine diagnostic tools, and multimeters.

Must possess the skills necessary to operate computer diagnostic equipment.

Forklift Certification License is required (Training and Certification provided by the employer).

Ability to read and interpret electrical and refrigeration schematics.

Ability to solder components.

Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or GED is required.

0 – 2 years of trade school or equivalent experience is preferred.

Must have or acquire necessary tools for this position.

Must maintain a forklift license.

A valid driver’s license is required for operating vehicles for testing purposes.

Performance Expectations:

- Adhere to safety protocols 100% of the time.

- Maintain a minimum productivity level of 21%.

- Complete oil changes within 15 minutes.

- Achieve an attendance rate of 97% or higher.

- Limit timekeeping errors to less than 2 per month.

- Be available for overtime as needed.

Physical Requirements:


This position requires physical strength and the ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor, including frequent bending, walking, and lifting in various weather conditions.

Must be able to stand for extended periods and climb ladders or steps to access equipment.

Ability to exert up to 50 lbs of force frequently and lift 65 pounds from floor to shoulder height occasionally.

Must be capable of driving a service vehicle for at least 80 continuous miles.

Occasional shifts may exceed 8 hours.


Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing are required, along with manual dexterity to handle tools effectively.

Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses, is necessary.

Exposure to hazardous materials and engine exhaust is part of the role.
