Job Summary

The Mammography Radiologic Technologist works under the direction of radiologists and lead mammographers, performing a variety of mammographic procedures, including special procedures and Dexa Scans. This role requires proficiency in operating departmental mammography equipment and assisting radiologists in special procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate mammography equipment and Dexa unit with precision and accuracy.
  • Assist radiologists in special procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Obtain patient history and pertinent information, accurately charging exams daily.
  • Provide care to adult and geriatric patients, adhering to principles of growth and development and life stages.
  • Perform quality control and chart results accurately.
  • Perform intra-operative specimen imaging as assigned.
  • Research and retrieve prior images as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to infection control and radiation safety protocols.
  • Meet continuing education requirements in mammography, maintaining 15 hours of education per MQSA.
  • Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Oregon State License as a radiologic technologist.
  • Mammography certification through ARRT within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification, preferred upon hire and required within 90 days.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bone Densitometry certification through ARRT or Certified Bone Densitometry Technologist (CBDT).
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for driving the mobile mammography unit.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in caring for adult and geriatric patients.
  • Ability to develop skills in using computerized information/ordering systems.
  • Proper radiation safety protection of patients and personnel.
  • Practices sterile techniques and follows proper procedures for blood and body fluid precautions.
  • Effectively utilizes PACS system.
  • Follows procedures for use of personal protective equipment, infection control, and disposal of hazardous waste and sharps.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality according to PHI regarding patient and co-worker information.
