The Emergency Medical Transportation Specialist position is integral to the Veterans Health Administration, specifically within the Veterans Transportation Services. This role involves providing critical medical transport services across various healthcare facilities, ensuring that veterans receive timely and effective care.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Medical Transportation Technician, you will:
- Respond to emergencies involving injuries and medical crises, performing vital assessments and interventions.
- Administer both Basic and Advanced Life Support, ensuring the highest level of care during transport.
- Operate emergency vehicles and utilize medical equipment proficiently, including defibrillators and IV pumps.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and dispatchers to relay critical information.
- Maintain and decontaminate transport vehicles, ensuring readiness for subsequent missions.
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following:
- Possess a valid state-issued Paramedic license.
- Hold current certifications in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
- Demonstrate specialized experience in emergency medical services or related fields.
- Exhibit proficiency in English, both written and spoken, as it pertains to patient care.
This role requires physical stamina, including the ability to lift and move patients in various situations. Candidates should be prepared for the physical challenges associated with emergency medical services.
Work EnvironmentThe position involves rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, to ensure continuous coverage for emergency services.
