Role Overview:
The Lead Civil Certification Engineer plays a vital role in supporting our engineering division. This position is responsible for formulating robust certification processes and protocols while managing civil certification initiatives. The Lead Engineer will:
  • Identify regulatory standards and prepare certification strategies and compliance checklists.
  • Develop inspection plans and generate various certification-related documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with our research and development teams.

Supernal offers a collaborative open-space work environment that reflects our core values. This role necessitates on-site presence five days a week.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in executing the Civil Certification Project, including identifying regulatory requirements and developing compliance methodologies.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the team and interdisciplinary research & development groups involved in the certification of the autonomous, passenger-carrying eVTOL aircraft.
  • Oversee certification projects, offering technical direction and problem-solving support to the technical team.
  • Ensure alignment of Hyundai UAM Engineering projects with regulations by preparing compliance checklists, certification plans, inspection plans, and relevant documentation.
  • Contribute to the creation of streamlined processes and procedures for the Certification group.
  • Train and mentor junior certification engineers in all aspects of Civil Certification.
  • Ensure that regulatory compliance is an integral part of the development process.
  • Raise awareness of the certification process and requirements within the broader Engineering team.
  • Participate in product design reviews, providing valuable design mentorship related to testing and certification plans.
  • Represent the department in discussions with program management, senior leadership, staff, and both internal and external government representatives.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 10% as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical, Mechanical, Systems, Industrial Engineering, or related fields required; Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in systems design, development, safety analysis, integration, and certification (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
  • Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 23 requirements.
  • Experience in requirements management and working with FAA personnel and designers.
  • Proficiency in FAA Type Certification, Supplemental Type Certification, and Production Certificate processes.
  • Knowledge of ARP4754A and ARP4761 safety processes.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently prioritize and manage work within time constraints.
  • Proficiency in Excel VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and MS Office Suite.

Additional qualifications that may be beneficial include experience with type certification of aircraft under relevant regulations, foreign validation of FAA Type Certificates, and familiarity with electric propulsion vehicles.
