Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Academic Professional to join our team at Laramie County Community College. The successful candidate will have a strong background in adult education and be able to teach and develop curriculum for English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.

Responsibilities:
  • Teaching:
    • Teach assigned classes as per course schedule and meet required contact hours, unless permission to deviate has been approved by appropriate supervisor to accommodate student need
    • Teach classes according to the approved College and Career Readiness Standards (CCR) and provide a current course syllabus for each course taught to the appropriate supervisor
    • Post and maintain office hours or maintain regular hours in the Student Success Center, Writing & Communication Center, Teaching and Learning Center, or other areas approved by the immediate supervisor in accordance with College policy and procedure
    • Communicate with and respond to students in a timely manner (in most instances this means 1-2 faculty work days)
    • Participate in ongoing, systematic, and documented assessment of student learning for all courses, programs, and the Colleges general education core abilities
    • Teach day, evening, weekend, or distance education courses determined by program needs
    • Instruct English as a Second Language courses as assigned
    • Maintain a current and accurate student records, grades, and assessments
  • Curriculum Development:
    • Assist in the design, implementation, and review of Adult Education and English as a Secondary Language programs to ensure alignment with current or emerging community, state, grant, or national needs, as appropriate
    • Maintain and adapt curriculum that is current, effective, and appropriate to course and program competencies
    • Develop and maintain instructional materials to support course and program competencies as applicable
    • Coordinate with and provide input to appropriate subject librarian to assist in selecting, evaluating, and deselecting library resources as applicable
  • Instructional Delivery:
    • Foster a supportive learning environment that encourages student success
    • Incorporate current subject matter expertise into instruction
    • Utilize varied learning activities to maximize student engagement and success
    • Employ relevant teaching tools, strategies, and classroom technologies
    • Prepare and maintain classroom and/or lab facilities
  • Assessment of Student Learning and Continuous Improvement:
    • Support student learning with timely and on-going feedback on progress and provide assistance towards meeting the course competencies
    • Comply with College procedures, practices, and deadlines related to instructional delivery, formative and summative assessment, and reporting requirements to include records management, redlining activities, grade submission, equipment management (as applicable), etc.
  • Communication:
    • Utilize LCCC email accounts to communicate with students, colleagues, supervisor, and/or supervisors designee
    • Communicate with and respond to students in a timely manner (in most instances this means 1-2 work days)
    • Be available either through email, phone, or in person to assist students who have questions regarding the class or materials
    • Submit approved syllabus to appropriate deans office
    • Maintain current contact information with the school office
    • Share appropriate notices with students (e.g., announcements, student activities, upcoming events, etc.)
    • Adhere to regulations established by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Qualifications:
  • Minimum:
    • Bachelors Degree in Education or a closely related field, from a regionally accredited institution
    • One year of experience teaching and curriculum development in adult education, middle school, or high school
    • Successful teaching experience with English Language Learners and/or adult student populations
  • Preferred:
    • Masters Degree in Education or a closely related field, from a regionally accredited institution
    • Three years of experience teaching and curriculum development in adult education, middle school, or high school
    • Certification in Adult Education, Career Pathways, English as a Second Language and/or PowerPath
