Position Summary:

Acuity Innovations is in search of a Cybersecurity Systems Assurance Engineer to join our team supporting a Military Satellite Communications Program Management Office within the US Space Force. Applicants must be US Citizens and able to obtain a DoD SECRET Security Clearance.

The selected candidate will assist the cybersecurity operations team in addressing cybersecurity challenges as needed. Additionally, the candidate will help identify non-compliant system configurations, potential threats, and other system vulnerabilities.

The Military Satellite Communications Systems Engineering, Integration, and Testing initiative provides cutting-edge Systems Engineering & Integration for the Air Force's Space and Missiles System Center. We support the acquisition of advanced Military Satellite Communications systems, ensuring secure, survivable, and protected communications for our nation's defense personnel. We seek technical individuals who will thrive in a collaborative environment, working in small teams with modern tools and methodologies to address the complexities of integrating sophisticated space and ground communication systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in drafting technical documentation including test plans, procedures, white papers, and reports
  • Utilize industry-standard and proprietary tools to gather and analyze cybersecurity data for identifying non-compliant settings, threats, and vulnerabilities
  • Facilitate communication with system developers to enhance understanding of cybersecurity principles and controls
  • Provide gathered data to Information Systems Security Engineers to support their evaluation of system cybersecurity posture and assist in resolving complex cybersecurity issues
  • Contribute to the creation and peer-review of cybersecurity test plans and detailed procedures that outline step-by-step instructions for utilizing advanced cybersecurity tools
  • Enhance cybersecurity testing methodologies through feedback and implementation
  • Assist in reporting cybersecurity program activities to upper management as required
  • Travel: approximately 10%

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or a related technical field
  • 2+ years of experience with Information Assurance Vulnerability Management processes
  • 2+ years of experience in military, aerospace, DoD government, academia, or industry
  • 2+ years of experience utilizing Defense Information Systems Agency Security Technical Implementation Guides and benchmarks
  • Understanding of various Operating Systems fundamentals
  • Aptitude for troubleshooting complex systems
  • Must meet position and certification requirements outlined in DoDD 8140 and DoDD M for Information Assurance within 6 months of hire
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, capable of independent learning and improvement with minimal supervision
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a DoD SECRET Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • International Council on Systems Engineering Certification (e.g., ASEP, CSEP, ESEP)
  • Understanding of software design and implementation fundamentals
  • Ability to tackle new challenges with limited guidance
  • Knowledge of DoD mission system sustainment
  • Experience with Secure Content Automation Protocol Compliance Checker and STIG Viewer
  • Experience with Assured Compliance Assessment Solution
  • Experience using Command-Line Interface
  • Experience administering Linux and Windows systems
  • Experience with Database Management (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server)
  • Experience with Cisco network devices
  • Experience developing and maintaining scripts (primarily PowerShell)
  • Experience in a competitive multi-contractor environment
  • Familiarity with software vulnerability assessment and code analysis
  • Familiarity with DoD Risk Management Framework Assessment and Authorization process
  • Familiarity with AF/DoD/CNSSI/NIST security policies and manuals
  • Familiarity with penetration testing methodologies and tools
