POSITION OVERVIEW
As a vital member of the educational team, the Student Support Specialist will assist in enhancing and reinforcing the learning experiences of students under the guidance of the classroom educator. This role encompasses responsibilities in both special education and general education settings, ensuring a supportive environment for all learners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and enhance instructional delivery as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Prepare educational materials and assist in maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment.
- Oversee student behavior during non-instructional times, including lunch and recess.
- Attend to the needs of students requiring assistance with routine medical procedures or personal hygiene as necessary.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the special education teacher or school administration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to work effectively with students with diverse needs, including physical, cognitive, emotional, and developmental challenges.
- Prior experience with special education students is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with educators and school staff.
- Demonstrated initiative and a systematic approach to completing assigned tasks.
- Willingness to undergo training in crisis intervention techniques.
- Ability to apply crisis intervention skills when necessary, as directed by supervisory staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent experience is required.
SKILLS:
Proficient in verbal and written communication. Capable of applying mathematical concepts in practical scenarios. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and address problems involving multiple variables.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands of this position require regular sitting, talking, and listening. Occasional standing, walking, and reaching are also necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
