We are seeking a skilled Diesel Electrician to join our team at Union Pacific Railroad. As a Diesel Electrician, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing the electrical systems of our diesel-electric locomotives.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct scheduled electrical inspections and circuit tests on various components using schematics and location circuit plans.
- Perform maintenance and repair of electrical components in locomotive cabs or electrical compartments, adhering to company and industry standards.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical systems and components to determine the root cause of problems.
- Coordinate work activities and plan the necessary steps to complete tasks, considering equipment requirements.
- Utilize shop machinery, equipment, and tools effectively and safely.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Proficiency in keyboarding.
- Competence in basic mathematics.
- Background in electronics, control systems, AC/DC motors, or possession of a current journeyman's electrical card.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and prints.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective information delivery to coworkers and supervisors.
- Completion of a recognized formal electrical training program.
- Possession of relevant certifications and/or licenses as an electrician.
- An Associate's degree in electricity or electronics.
- Demonstrated experience working outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong emphasis on safety. The job may involve tasks performed at elevations of 20 feet or higher, and the candidate must be willing to wear company-mandated personal protective equipment.
